BioPak x Bean Squeeze

Everything we do here is guided by our philosophy of leave happier. Whether it's your morning coffee (just the way you like it), or any of our handmade food items, we're that little hit of happiness as you move through your day.

So, just like our coffee and food products, when it came to sourcing our cups and food packaging, we wanted to use the best. Packaging that's going to leave our planet happier. After careful consideration, we partnered with leading Australian packaging business, BioPak.

We have huge amounts of respect for BioPak's approach. They design and manufacture food service packaging from rapidly renewable, plant-based materials that can be diverted from landfill and supports the move towards a circular economy.

It was 10 years ago when BioPak recognised the growing environmental problem of plastic in our oceans and set out to challenge the status quo.

For us, decreasing the impact our business has on our oceans and the environment is an ongoing priority. We’re not afraid to change something if there’s improvements we can make in doing so, and have done just that with our switch from using plastic to paper straws in March, 2018. When we saw the statistics around single use plastic straws, it was simply a no brainer.

In short, plastic straws suck! (pun absolutely intended). 'Every plastic straw used takes over 200 years to decompose, is not recyclable and among the top 10 debris items globally. Currently, 10 million plastic straws are used in Australia, every day.'

We’re just getting started, and we’ll never stop seeking to learn more, so we can do better. If you want to read further about the BioPak products we use at Bean Squeeze stores, please check our FAQs.

 Cup Drop - Composting Initiative

Update at November 23, 2018: Unfortunately, we’ve been advised not to roll out this program across all stores, due to a change in process and the potential food safety risk that change presents.

We're disappointed, as the initiative has had growing support from customers and as a business, positive impact is an ongoing priority for us.

But guys? We are still all for testing and trialling new initiatives like this, if there’s progress we can make in doing so. As tech improves and we learn more, we hope cup drop 2.0 isn’t too far away.
